GPS capable mobile phones banned in Egypt

As more and more mobile phones comes with built-in GPS capabilities, the Egyptian government has extended the ban on commercial use of GPS without a license to include GPS capable mobile phones. To use GPS in Eqypt you require a license which is only issued after getting clearance from the security authorities. Due to the new law it is now illegal to import GPS enabled smartphones into the country and any importer who violate this law faces having not only the unauthorised devices confiscated, but the entire stock belonging to the retailer or wholesaler. Despite this law GPS devices are being smuggled into the country on daily basis. Its really a shame that government will try to deter her citizens the benefits of this amazing technology.
