TomTom has released a new GPS system that is designed for two wheels auto riders. The TomTom Rider was developed from the successful TomTom GO line of automobile GPS units.
The Rider features a hooded LCD display with an 89 mm (3.5"), 320 x 240 full color TFT touch screen and a built-in Bluetooth communication capability. The Rider is claimed to be water resistant only. Note that some other GPS units, such as the Garmin 2720, meet IPX-7 waterproof specifications (protected against water immersion for 30 minutes at a depth of 1 meter), but apparently TomTom has not tested the Rider to these specs.
With dimensions of 4.5 x 2.3 x 3.6 inches (W x D x H) and weighing only 11 ounces, this unit is compact with a portable design that fits both bikes and scooters via the included four-piece mounting kit. The Rider comes with a 1GB Secure Digital (SD) flash memory disk that holds its maps. It uses the NAVTEQ map system when purchased in North America.
It comes with a multi-lingual feature that speaks more than 30 different languages in over 50 different voices, and lets you choose from 18 languages for its user interface. This navigator provides you with thousands of POIs (points of interest), which it lets you call directly through the interface, and even allows hands-free calling via any Bluetooth compatible phone.
